K
ev began drumming in high school, performing live as often as possible in a variety of styles such as jazz, rock, pop and musical theatre. His motivation to play in front of a crowd led him to become a seasoned live performer by the time he left school, experience that he’s been building on ever since.
Already performing regularly on his local live music circuit, Kev stepped up his equipment collection with his first custom-made drum kit in his late teens, his growing skill as a musician finding a need for a kit that could match his style and help him forge his own sound.
Kev joined the band one:day:life in late 2004, keen to create music he loved and develop his writing ability, as well as touring for the first time. His impact on the band was immediate , he was able to provide a rock-steady backbone to the well-crafted pop songs, and add in style and skill when needed.
With their first writing sessions complete, they went straight into the studio to record the "Same Old Story" EP which, along with some earlier recordings gave Kev a taste of drumming in the studio and an awareness of the new challenges and opportunities it gave him
including incorporating new equipment and sounds into his performance.
The band went on to build their own studio and write, record, mix and produce their following two releases Friends In Name Only and Heroes, Hoods and Headphones. Kev was keen to translate the endless options of his studio work into his live show and Jobeky drums have fulfilled that need perfectly.
During live shows, Kev uses a mixture of acoustic and electric drums to fill out the sound of the three-piece and go beyond the rhythm part of the band - triggering melodies, effects and instrumentation from the back of the stage.
As well as touring nationally at music venues, festivals etc, one:day:life also run highly successful Schools Tours, which involve performing to hundreds of kids at each show, and also working with young musicians to help them start their own music careers. Kev uses his Jobeky drums during these workshops, giving new ideas to new drummers.
